One of the things people flock to Lansing, NC for is the rare abundance found teeming  in its creek waters. Fly fishermen from all over know that our creeks hold possibilities not easily found elsewhere. What begins as a reflective moment of quiet solitude, knee deep in the crisp water, becomes a moment of victory as the fishing line pulls taut with expectation. In the same way, our community has held both reflection and tense expectation in response to the damage from hurricane Helene. And in the same way that a fisherman holds his catch, feels grateful for its beauty, and then releases it back into the rushing waters, freeing it to continue to contribute to life there- we continue to look for ways to contribute to vibrant life in Lansing. This piece is my contribution as an artist to that end. The original piece was raffled in December of 2024 to raise money for creek cleanup in Western NC.
